Signal Verse: The Chiayi Universe is an immersive digital art exhibition that takes Chiayi City as its point of departure, exploring how the world can be seen, recorded, and reimagined. The exhibition extends the long-term Data-Verse project developed by the media art collective 2ENTER. Through game engines, data computation, and real-time interactive technologies, signals within the city—such as weather data, online information, and patterns of collective behavior—are translated into continuously shifting digital landscapes, allowing invisible flows of information to form an evolving urban environment within virtual space.
In contemporary society, cities are no longer constituted solely by physical space; they are also shaped by the constant circulation of digital information and networked signals. As these data flows intertwine with human perception, cities gradually emerge as a kind of “data landscape.” This exhibition consists of two works: Data-Verse Chiayi 02 and Beast, each approaching the city from the perspectives of audience participation and urban imagery. Data-Verse Chiayi 02 invites visitors to participate in the generation of the city through drawing, translating their images in real time into the terrain and objects of a virtual Chiayi. Beast employs XR (Extended Reality) technology to merge real street views, the exhibition space, and a virtual world, generating mythical creatures that transform in response to real-time weather conditions and urban data.
Through the convergence of audience actions, environmental change, and digital signals, Signal Verse: The Chiayi Universe portrays a continuously evolving urban cosmos, presenting the city as a dynamic system that is constantly shaped through participation and imagination.
